About Us
We Speak Truck, Family-Owned, Heavy-Duty Experts
Monson Truck & Trailer Repair is a family-owned, full-service heavy-duty shop serving the Quad Cities and a 75-mile core radius, with the capability to go farther when needed. Founded in 2009 by Robert “Buck” Monson, we’ve grown from a single bay into a multi-bay operation off I-280 in Davenport, IA, known for fast response, straight talk, and work done right for owner-operators and fleets alike.
From Humble Beginnings
In 2009, Buck opened his first shop in East Moline, IL, inside a historic former John Deere manufacturing building. He started with one bay on a month-to-month handshake—thanks to Ed James, a tough-as-nails landlord with a soft spot for strivers. As tenants moved out, Ed allowed Buck to expand into larger spaces, eventually reaching two long bays and roughly 8,000 sq. ft. That early flexibility enabled us to stock parts, take weekend service calls, and build a reputation for getting trucks rolling when others wouldn’t.
Just as pivotal was Buck’s mother, Dixie Monson. She believed he was meant for more and proved it by signing him up for college without telling him, pushing him toward the skills and confidence to run his own operation. Between Ed’s open door and Dixie’s relentless encouragement, Buck had the break and the belief he needed to turn a one-bay start into a full-scale heavy-duty shop.
